Congratulations to Arezzo NL and Rob Bick on their Top Ten award in the Western Pleasure Junior Horse class at Scottsdale in 2008. With his compact Western frame, elegant neck and extraordinarily typey head, Arezzo turned more than a few heads in the in the Equidome and around the show grounds. His 2008 babies are on the ground and his yearlings are looking great. For breeding information, contact us.

Moondance NL
(Sundance Kid V x Mattihari)

Moondance NL (Sundance Kid V x Mattihari) went top three with Rob Bick in the Western Pleasure Junior Horse class at both the 2006 Region 12 and Region 15 Championship Shows. As always, these were tough and very competitive classes. She's at home now as part of our broodmare band.

Kabala NA

We are pleased that Kabala NA (Millenium LOA x *Kwestura) is now at
Northern Lights Arabians.

This 2003 filly is out of *Kwestura, the beautiful Monogramm daughter and Polish National Champion Mare brought to the United States by Mike Nichols. While here, *Kwestura added U.S. National Champion Mare to her long list of championships. In Poland she is considered a National treasure. Kabala was sired by U.S. National Champion Stallion Millenium LOA. She is strikingly beautiful as you would expect. With her dam back in Poland and the tragic loss of her sire, Kabala's pedigree is both regal and unique. We thank Mike Nichols for the opportunity to bring this wonderful filly into our breeding program.

Northern Lights Arabians Moves To Virginia

In August 2004, Northern Lights Arabians moved from our farm on Brown Hill in Elmore Vermont to Hidden Hollow Farm in beautiful Rappahannock County, Virginia.

January 2004 in Vermont--One for the Record Book

January 2004 was one for the record book...the weather records...at the farm in Vermont. Temperatures plunged below zero after the New Year and stayed there for most of the month. The thermometer outside the mare barn read -36F on January 15, a record low temperature for the farm. Daytime highs during the same period hovered around -20F. Despite the bitter cold, our hale and hearty arabs with their thick winter coats had turnout almost every day. Only when the north wind kicked up to drop wind chill temperatures to -50F did we keep everyone in the barn for the day. In this kind of frigid weather, everything takes about three times as long as normal ... putting on halters with thick gloves, opening and closing gates, dumping manure that has frozen into a wagon-sized block in the time it took to fill the wagon. The crux of every day was quite simply... is the water still flowing? But at the end of a long stretch like this January, it is satisfying to see that the horses are fine and that, through everyone's extra efforts, the work of the farm got done.

The thermometer read -36F

2003 U.S. Nationals

Annie Oakley V

October 28, 2003. We have just returned from Albuquerque. The U.S. Nationals was an incredible conclusion to our first full show season. We showed two junior horses this season: Mojave Kid V, with Larry Jones, and Annie Oakley V, with Caralyn Schroter and Rob Bick. Early in the season at shows in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York, both horses gained experience and brought home many blue ribbons and championships.

Mojave Kid V finished Top Five in the Arabian Hunter Pleasure Junior Championship class at Region 15 in Lexington, Virginia. Annie Oakley V followed with the Arabian Hunter Pleasure Junior Championship at Region 16 in Syracuse, New York. In August, Annie went on to Regina, Saskatchewan for the Canadian Nationals and brought home the Reserve National Championship. Both horses traveled to Albuquerque for the U.S. Nationals.

The Arabian Hunter Pleasure Junior class at the U.S. Nationals had 54 entries and was a very strong class. Though Mojave Kid V failed to make the cut, he and Larry had a splendid ride. And because his show was over, Dianne and Jeb enjoyed Larry's coaching and the privilege of riding Mojave in the practice ring among some of the finest trainers in the breed.

Larry and Mojave at Work in Albuquerque

Annie Oakley and Caralyn made both cuts to show in the finals on Saturday afternoon in Tingley Coliseum. After 10 days of warm, sunny weather, Saturday brought much colder weather, gusty winds and blowing sand. Every trip across the show grounds left us with eyes and mouths full of New Mexico grit.

We packed the Dolorosa box for the afternoon session, which included the Hunter Pleasure Junior Championship class. Dianne, Jeb and Jeb's mother, Lorrie Sanford; Frank, Sarah and Judy Chisholm, Michelle Watson and Cliff McCurdy; Rob Bick; Larry and Rie Jones and others. Despite the abrupt change in weather, Caralyn and Annie looked great and had a fine ride...and so did every other horse in the class. After the horses lined up and the judges cards were turned in, we all sat anxiously awaiting the results. When Annie was called among the Top Ten, her cheering section erupted. What an incredible end to her season...a National Top Ten! But it was not to be over that soon. She was called back again as Reserve National Champion and we really went crazy. Sheila Varian came running down to give everyone hugs and Dianne, Lorrie, Rob and Jeb trotted down the steps to the arena for pictures with Annie and Caralyn. What a thrill to stand in the center of the arena at the Nationals with your horse and trainers and a national championship trophy! It was just an unbelievable conclusion to a wonderful show season. Thanks so much to Caralyn and Rob and to Larry and Rie for our success this season and for taking such good care of our horses.
